Atlas Mountains And Imlil Day Trip from Marrakech:

Departure from your Riad or Hotel in Marrakech begins at 8:30 am, marking the start of a breathtaking journey to Imlil. As you set off, you’ll cross the town of Tahnaout and head south toward the scenic Moulay Brahim gorges. Shortly after, you’ll arrive in Asni, a lively town where you can enjoy the vibrant weekly Berber market, held every Saturday. From there, the route continues to Imlil (1,740m), located in the western High Atlas Mountains.

As the road winds upward, you’ll notice the dramatic shift in terrain. The region is known for its rugged relief, accessible only via a narrow road that reaches the valley’s center. From this point, the steep slopes lead to several Douars (Berber hamlets), each beautifully adapted to the surrounding natural environment. Notably, the valley lies at the foot of the majestic High Atlas range, dominated by Jbel Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4,167 meters.

Consequently, this trip offers the perfect opportunity to escape the busy streets of Marrakech and immerse yourself in peaceful mountain landscapes. Soon after, you’ll arrive at Imlil — a hub for hikers and trekkers — where you’ll pause to enjoy a refreshing cup of mint tea. Here, you’ll meet your local mountain guide.

Following this, your guide will lead you on a 4km trek to the charming Berber village of Aremd (1,843m). As you walk, you’ll pass through the quaint hamlets of Souka Ait Targa and Imoula. In front of you, stunning views of Jbels Aguelzim rise dramatically against the sky, making this trek a feast for the eyes and soul alike.

Best day out on the whole holiday.
We had a great walking tour of the atlas mountains with an amazing lunch in a local home, the best Tagine you can get.
Followed by a camel ride at sunset, absolutely magical.
Our driver Ali was so friendly and helpful and was happy stopping every now and again for a panoramic photo opportunity.
He even went out of the way to show us the best view he knew of and wow…. incredible!
